Monday, January 24, 2005 at 06:42AM 1527 -- Felix Manz was executed by drowning in Zuirch. Manz was a Hebrew scholar and an illegitimate son of a canon of Grossminster Church in Zurich, had become Anabaptist and was undermining the authority of the City Council. He was exiled from the city, but he returned secretly, was arrested, and condemned--not for heresy but for sedition.
1908 -- The first Boy Scout troop was organized in England by Robert Baden-Powell.
1922 -- Christian K. Nelson of Onawa, Iowa, patented the Eskimo Pie.
