Nickel-And-Diming Us To Death Department

According to Brian Cooley over at ZDNet, "Downloadable ring tones will be a $300 million dollar business in the United States this year--double what it was last year and still the smallest ring tone market in the world. "

Got that? People shelled out $150 million last year, and it's looking like they'll do double that this year, just to change the sound their cellphone makes when it rings. And we're pikers when compared to Europe or Japan.

That says something about modern culture. What exactly, I'm not quite sure.

I'm honestly not surprised. I wish it was just nickels and dimes, but I was looking at ring tones just last night (yes, I admit it, I like them too) and most were $2.50. I have an unlimited wireless internet access plan on my phone which includes $10 worth of downloads (screensavers, rings, games, and small apps) which I never use all, if any, of. It's all such a big rip off, especially when many of the downloads have an expiration date.
